Winner of 11 Australian Academy Awards!

If you’re looking for that festival feel-good hit, The Sapphires is pure delight! Set during the Vietnam War—and based on a true story—the tale about four vibrant and talented young Aboriginal girls plucked from obscurity to entertain the troops is brimming with Motown hits, love, humor, and spunk.

In a dusty, outback tavern, the girls—Gail, Julie, Kay, and Cynthia—are discovered by the often-soused, Irish talent manager Dave (wonderfully played by Bridesmaids’ Chris O’Dowd). With his sharp ear for honey-tinged voices, Dave ignores the local racism and makes it his mission to turn the girls into global stars. Once he convinces them to drop their country rooted tunes in favor of the sass and sexiness of soul, the group starts their tour and incredible journey.
